There’s no shortage of window and door companies serving Haverford. Here’s what separates us:

The community now known as Haverford traces its origins to 1681, when Welsh Quakers purchased land from William Penn as part of the 40,000-acre Welsh Tract. The first three families arrived in 1682, establishing the agricultural community named after Haverfordwest — the town in Pembrokeshire, Wales — that would become one of the Main Line’s most storied addresses. Joshua Humphreys, born in Haverford Township in 1751, carried that heritage forward in American history: commissioned in 1794 by the new United States government, Humphreys designed the six frigates for the newly formed Navy — including USS Constitution, launched October 21, 1797, and still sailing today as the oldest commissioned warship afloat in the world. Old Ironsides was designed by a man from this ground.
The Pennsylvania Railroad opened Haverford Station in 1880 — milepost 9.17 on the Main Line west of what is now Suburban Station in Philadelphia — and the residential community that grew up around it attracted the Gilded Age’s most accomplished residents. Clement Acton Griscom, founder and president of American Steamship Lines, built Dolobran on Laurel Lane in 1881, commissioned from legendary Philadelphia architect Frank Furness in a design encompassing more than 0.5 acres of floor space across five levels. Furness also designed the Merion Cricket Club on Montgomery Avenue. Alexander Cassatt — president of the Pennsylvania Railroad and brother of Impressionist painter Mary Cassatt — left his mark on Lower Merion’s streetscape: the granite curbstones on township roads and the distinctive green and yellow metal street signs that every Lower Merion resident recognizes are the Cassatt family’s enduring contribution to the community’s visual identity.
Haverford College, founded in 1833 by the Society of Friends as the first college established by Quakers in the United States, anchors the community’s 225-acre campus straddling the Lower Merion and Haverford Township boundary. The SEPTA Paoli/Thorndale Line Haverford Station continues to connect the community to Center City Philadelphia. With an average household income of $279,936 and a residential landscape ranging from Gilded Age estates to postwar Colonials, Haverford’s homeowners invest in the properties they have chosen for the long term.
